The Organized Student: Back to School Tips to Last a Lifetime
Sep 3 - 9-10:30 am Certified Professional Organizer and former teacher Leslie McKee of McKee Organizing Services Inc., will share tips and strategies to help organize the family, the home and the student for success.
Be GREEN Saving on Home Energy - Practical and Affordable Solutions Be GREEN: This three part series will be held over a three month period - Sep, Oct, & Nov. Each session is scheduled for three hours, that includes presentations and demonstrations. We will encourage Q&A. Bring your utitlity bills as reference material for diagnostic methods discussion.
Each session will repeat a 60 minute introductory overview that will provide the participants with: - Home energy demographic information from the Dept of Energy & EPA. - The EnergyStar initiatives for new and existing homes. - Western Pennsylvania residential energy initiatives (rebates and incentives) - Building Science basics to assist participants in making informed choices to address their home energy issues - Diagnostic methods.
Session One: Heating, Cooling & Domestic Hot Water concepts, issues and potential improvements

Session Two: Do it yourself items. Myths, rumors, folk lore & facts…. Ventilation, Heath & Safety, Thermostat settings, Appliances & Phantom loads

Worm Composting
Sep 25 7-8:45 pm Learn how to compost with the Pennsylvania Resources Council. Cost is $45 per person/ $55 per couple/family. A worm composting bin with ˝ lb. of red wiggler worms is included!

Sing, Sign and Play Sep 8&11 and 15&18 - 10-11 am Sign language for children taught with songs and activities. For children ages 6 months to 4 years with a parent or caregiver. Registration is required. Sign up at the Children's Desk. This is a two session class. Please pre-register for two Monday or two Thursday sessions.

Did you know that insurance consumers have an advocate in Pennsylvania? The Office of Consumer Liason for the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance acts as an independent voice for Pennsylvania consumers relating to their insurance coverage needs and questions. Their goal is to help you understand your insurance policies and to help you to make informed decisions. Find out more from a representative of the Office on Tuesday September 9 at 7:00 PM. The first part of the program will focus on help in combating the growing problem of identity theft. Bring your questions!
Sock Monkey Making Workshop
Sep 11 7-8:30 pm Learn to make the original red heel sock monkey to donate to disadvantaged children here in Pittsburgh or across the world.If you want to make a sock monkey for yourself, you can purchase a pair of socks at the program for $10, otherwise all supplies and instructions are included. The Rise of China
Sep 16 6:30-9 pm The world's attention has recently focused on China, the host of the 2008 Olympics. On September 16 two University of Pittsburgh http://www.pitt.edu/ scholars will help you gain a clear understanding of China's dynamic emergence as a world leader in the twenty-first century as discussed in their 2007 book, China's Rise and the Balance of Influence in Asia. Dr. William W. Keller is director of the Matthew B. Ridgeway Center for International Security Studies http://www.ridgeway.pitt.edu/ Dr. Thomas G. Rawski is professor of economics and history. Join us to learn for a more in-depth understanding of this fascinating country. The program begins at 6:30 PM. Authors Dr. William W. Keller and Dr. Thomas G. Rawski will be here to discuss their book.

Muzzy Language Collection for children
September Project The September Project is a grassroots effort to encourage events about freedom and democracy in all libraries in all countries during the month of September. In 2004, we began the September Project to break the silence following September 11, and to invite all people into libraries to consider topics of patriotism, democracy, and citizenship.
As the project evolved, events spread throughout the month of September and focused on issues of freedom and democracy. Freedom Resource List
