Library Changes

> Book Stop books - In January the library decided to make the Book Stop books 1 week to encourage turnover of our limited resources. But in response to patron requests, we decided to allow them to be renewed up to 2 times, if patrons need that extra time. The Book Stop materials must be renewed each week and you can now renew them online as well as call the library at 412-531-1912.

> Library items on "hold"- The disappearance of the queue is a result of the new way “holds” are handled by the eiNetwork and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's shipping department (which trucks the books, etc., to libraries all over the county). The State funding cuts drastically affected CLP's budget for the shipping department, which ships millions of items every year and has experienced a colossal increase in the number of books and other items going around the county. In order to continue providing 5-day-a-week delivery to all libraries in the county, eiNetwork and CLP developed the new system for "holds" that will make the turnaround time much faster. Reserved items will be filled from a patron’s local library's collection first, then if the library doesn’t own that particular item it will be requested from other libraries. As a result of that change, the queue doesn't work the same way that it did under the old system, so holds can't be "tracked" up the ladder, so to speak. The benefit is that reserves will be filled more quickly, as the time an item spends in transit around the county is reduced considerably. This new procedure will be give a 3-month trial and evaluation.

LIBRARY TIDBITS

Tulips To Go @ Mt. Lebanon Library tulips

Mt. Lebanon Public Library, is one of the busiest public libraries in Pennsylvania. Severe funding cuts have heightened the need for grassroots efforts to build awareness and generate funds for the library. Tulips to Go donations will finance much needed book, CD, DVD, and database purchases for the benefit of library patrons.

Starting March 4 and continuing through April 5, ten (10) tulips may be ordered for a $10.00 donation to Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Download an order form and instructions at www.mtlebanonlibrary.org/about/tulips, or fill out a form in person at the library’s main circulation desk.

The tulip bunches will be available in several colors, but they will be sold in single color bunches. Quantities of tulips are limited, so hurry and place an order today.
Tulips that have been ordered may be picked up at the Mt. Lebanon Library, 16 Castle Shannon Blvd., at the lower entrance, on April 12 between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

Donations Needed for Baubles, Books, & Bubbly

Baubles, Books, & Bubbly are ready to take donations now for the big event in October. Please see what you may have to contribute and bring it to the Book Cellar.

The Book Cellar is working on an alphabetical list: A is for ankle bracelet, B is for box, etc. In March they are accepting suggestions for F through J. Also pick up a form at the Book Cellar for a chance to win in a drawing.

Volunteers are still needed to help work the Book Cellar; please feel welcome to give Kate Kovalan a buzz at volunteer.bookcellar@gmail.com. The Book Cellar has been a tremendous financial  asset to Mt. Lebanon Public Library so any contribution in your time will be greatly appreciated.

The goal of One Book, One Community in Allegheny County is to build a better community through reading and civic discourse.

This year's selection is A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson. Great book to use in your Book Group Discussions.
