Mt. Lebanon Public Library director chosen to chair the Newbery Medal committee
We are proud to announce that our own Mt. Lebanon Public Library Director, Cynthia Richey, has been appointed chair of the 2011 Newbery Award Committee. The Newbery Award is given each year by the American Library Association for the most distinguished American children’s book published. The president of the Association for Library Services to Children, Pat Scales, chose Mrs. Richey because she is well aware of her strong leadership skills and past experience as a children’s librarian. It is a big job and Mrs. Richey will be reading hundreds of books in preparation of choosing the winner. Read more about this honor in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, May 20, 2009 or click here Newberry Committee. Article written by Mary Niederberger.

The Library needs your HELP!
The 2009-10 budget proposed by the Senate (S.B.850) reduces the Public Library Subsidy by 50%! A reduction to services would severely impair or eliminate many programs and services throughout the public library system. NOW is the time to write to your state officials to express your concern, specifically how it will affect your library. Click HELP YOUR LIBRARY for talking points and addresses.
